Three shoplifters arrested within three hours in Maarheeze supermarket

The police arrested three shoplifters in 2.5 hours in the same supermarket in Maarheeze on Saturday. A man was so brazen that he tried to steal something while the officers were still in the store for the previous thief.

“Our afternoon shift was more like a shuttle service between the office and the supermarket,” jokes local police officer Max Lenting on Instagram.

Drunk
Around half past three, a shoplifter put up fierce resistance. “He was too drunk to stand on his feet. During the arrest we were talking in the store to get the story straight.”

Fifteen minutes later it happened again at the supermarket on Smits van Oyenlaan. “Suspect two had the audacity to pass the cash register with items in his backpack while we were in the store.” That’s why other officers came to take him to the station as well.

Number three
The local police officer had to take action again at six o’clock. “The food will have to wait,” Alex wrote. The same supermarket had called the police again. “Suspect number three ran away through the gates at the entrance with a number of 6-packs of beer and escaped.”

The police were able to arrest him shortly afterwards. They knew what he looked like because someone had taken a picture of him.

The last suspect turned out to have more to do. The shoplifter turned out to have been flagged in the police systems for another ‘serious criminal offence’. Another European country wants him transferred. The police officer does not say what exactly he had done. “After the shoplifting has been dealt with, the detectives will start working on this surrender.”

A few hours later, Max wrote happily on Instagram: “Now back to Maarheeze for a bite to eat.”
