The driver was driving on Avenue de Fronton in Toulouse at about 6:20 am. According to the prefecture of the French department of Haute-Garonne, the man committed multiple traffic violations. In an attempt to shake off the police, he first collided with another vehicle and shortly after hit the group of pedestrians.
Six ambulances and 25 firefighters immediately rushed to the scene to help the victims. Three of them are in critical condition.
The driver was arrested on the spot. “The Public Prosecutor’s Office will determine the exact circumstances of the accident,” the prefecture said in a statement.
