Three reasons why Union is ripe for Europe

Bundesliga final sprint, time for records! The 2-1 win in Leipzig was Union’s fourth three-pointer in a row – the Irons have never done that in the Bundesliga. The currently achieved 50 points are also unsurpassed. Union is ripe for Europe!

Conference League, Europa League or even Champions League? RB coach Domenico Tedesco (36) even thinks it’s possible for Union to reach the premier class: “Of course, they’re able to beat any opponent. If they win in Leipzig, they can win against any opponent.”

What makes Union so strong even after the winter departures of top performers like Max Kruse (34, to Wolfsburg) and Marvin Friedrich (26, Gladbach)?

If Union has one thing, it’s morale.

Three days after the Pokal-Aus (1:2) the Köpenicker came back at the same place and didn’t let themselves be unnerved by the deficit in the 46th minute by Poulsen with Leipzig’s first shot on goal.

Union turned the game admirably.

Because now winter access Sven Michel is also igniting.

In the last few minutes, Sven Michel (86′) and Kevin Behrens (89′), who had just come on in the 85th minute, scored to win. Submission to 2: 1: Michel!

Michel has rarely been able to shine in the second half of the season. Behrens also had little opportunity to do so recently. Now they too are going into the final games with a lot of confidence. Your advantage on Saturday: You were physically fresh. Captain Christopher Trimmel (35): “You can see again and again that the substitutes are very important. This time they made the difference.”

The broad squad, which is largely at a performance level, has had a positive impact throughout the season. Even the departure of “difference player” Kruse is now demonstrably digested. With the offensive player, Union scored an average of 1.7 points by the end of January. Without him it is now at least 1.5. A similar yield. But: Where would the Irons be on the 31st match day with Kruse…?

The final program – Fürth (April 29) and Bochum (May 14) at home, Freiburg away (May 7) – requires little imagination: There is still a lot to do for the iron ones! Records can also be expanded.
