three novelties in the most innovative sustainable yarns

Belda Lloréns, a pioneer in the production of sustainable yarns with a virtually zero carbon footprint, continues to innovate. The Spanish manufacturer with more than 65 years of experience and 65,000 m2 of production area is a leader in the field of rotor spinning. With its Ecolife brand, which achieved “Carbon Neutral” status last year, the company offers sustainable and certified recycling products that save a lot of water, energy, plastic and CO2. Francisco Mataix, Managing Director of Belda Lloréns, presents the new products.

What are the trends in the sustainable spinning market today?

We live in somewhat uncertain times. Current prices are subject to market inflation driven by world events. However, we are seeing the rise of circular economy, such as the ‘post-consumer’ recycling that we use in our yarns. On the other hand, more and more brands and consumers are demanding transparency. Therefore, for each of our products, we offer very important traceability of our yarns throughout the supply chain using blockchain technology.

What’s new this year?

We will launch three new products: EHemp, ECec and EDenim.

EHemp is a yarn made from 30% hemp and 70% organic cotton (or 70% Tencel). This plant requires minimal use of pesticides, needs very little water, is antimicrobial and absorbs 22 tons of CO2 from the atmosphere. Not only does it protect against the sun’s UV rays, but it can also be grown in all soil types. It is undoubtedly a very versatile and extremely sustainable material.

ECec is made from 50% Good Earth Cotton, cotton that absorbs more CO2 than it emits and is traceable with FibreTrace technology, and 50% recycled cotton (or 50% Tencel). This yarn uses 20% less water than regular cotton.

EDenim is made from 50% organic cotton and 50% recycled cotton and post-consumer denim. The yarn comes in three colors and is made without dyes as the color is derived from the recycled denim. This yarn enables maximum savings in water (72%), CO2 emissions (59%), energy (56%) and chemicals (99%).

Which brands use Belda Llórens and Ecolife products?

All our brands require transparency and traceability in the supply chain, such as Ecoalf, El Ganso, Blue Banana, Ganni, Diesel, Hugo Boss, Inditex, H&M, Decathlon, Lacoste or Kering, and many more.

And for us, sustainability isn’t just a question of fibers or materials, it’s also a question of company DNA, knowing where the product is made, under what working conditions, and how it impacts the environment, to name just a few .

What are Ecolife’s bestsellers?

Our bestsellers are very popular in the textile industry. Our EPolycot Made from recycled polyester and cotton yarn saves 98% water. EBestCotton, the most sustainable (dye free) cotton on the market, has become a staple in the collections of many fashion brands. It is made from organic cotton (50%) and recycled cotton (50%). In addition, the color of the yarns comes from the recycled cotton, avoiding the use of chemical dyes. We also have ECotton, a yarn made from 60% recycled cotton and 40% BCI cotton. And ours EViscosawhich was the first GRS and Ecovero certified viscose.

What advice would you give to textile and fashion companies who want to produce their collections in a more sustainable and ethical way?

Sustainability does not necessarily have to be more expensive. I would advise brands to take the plunge because there is no going back in the industry. We have to go with the trend and become more aware. To change a mode of production, however, you have to rethink and reconsider everything. With sustainable fashion production, there are more limitations. It needs to be produced in an eco-friendly design and of course in more reasonable quantities.

Be part of the change!
