Thomas van Groningen is criticized within Talpa because he is currently on a skiing holiday and therefore cannot present News of the Day. “This says a lot about his mentality,” says Johan Derksen.
Ouch: Thomas van Groningen receives penalty points from colleague Johan Derksen because he is currently on a skiing holiday. To make matters worse, there were no replacements available to present News of the Day last night, so Raymond Mens was suddenly deployed. He made his presentation debut quite unexpectedly.
Excellent debut
TV critic Victor Vlam thinks it went well. “Excellent debut from Raymond as a presenter! Good dynamics at the table. No nerves to be seen. He is quite natural in his appearance and that is nice to watch. He sometimes has the tendency to join in the conversation, but that just takes some getting used to a new role,” he writes. X.
Thomas was kind enough to record an encouragement video for Raymond, from his holiday address. “Hey Raymond, good luck, boy. I’m not going to watch,” he said, sipping the beer.
“He’s right!”
That’s fine, Raymond thinks. “I think it was after six beers, but he’s right of course, because he’s free,” he says Today Inside.
Johan Derksen is critical. “I’m a bit of an old-fashioned man, aren’t I? And then I think: if you are young and you have the ambition to work in TV and due to circumstances you are allowed to present a talk show there, then I would not go drinking with friends somewhere in the snow in the middle of the season. That says a lot about the mentality of that generation.”
Work hard
Silly comment, says Wilfred Genee. “Oh, so you want to size up Thomas? Just tell him that he has to work really hard?”
René van der Gijp: “I don’t belong to that generation, but I am one of them too! Hahahaha.”
Johan: “Well, not me. That’s a generation that won’t win the war, right?”
René: “You also have people who just want to enjoy life. Work may not come first. Perhaps work and enjoyment are equal.”
Laziness
Johan clearly disagrees with René. “Yes, but you associate enjoyment of life with laziness. You like to just relax on the couch.”
René: “No, I just enjoy having dinner with my children on Wednesday evenings, having a nice meal with my wife on Saturdays and having a delicious lunch with a bottle of wine on the beach on Sundays. I like that.”
Johan: “Yes, but in our job you have an hour of real work a day with the preparation.”
René: “Yes, but that is of no use to you. You would never want to sit on the beach with a rosé or something.”
Waste of time
Johan agrees. “No, I think that’s a waste of my time.”
René: “Yes, but there are people who like it and enjoy it.”
Johan: “Yes, but you don’t leave if you have a contract and a very attractive job for young people in the middle of the season, while you have to lead the program?”
René: “Yes, but Johan, this boy also worked between Christmas and New Year’s Eve. You have to leave at some point.”
Johan concludes: “Yes, but if you work in this business, you just have to be there when there is a broadcast.”
