Thomas van Groningen sits at the head of the table at Today Inside for two days because Wilfred Genee is already on Christmas vacation. “He makes it clear how good Wilfred actually is,” he said.
The summer brought Thomas van Groningen a lot: he did well as a substitute for Hélène Hendriks at the table at De Oranjezomer, and in any case much better than Johnny de Mol. It has earned him a permanent place as presenter of the right-wing TV news News of the Day, but he can now also fill in for the big Today Inside.
‘How good Genee is’
Johan Derksen was enthusiastic yesterday when Thomas announced at the end of his first substitute appearance that he would be back again today. “You are very welcome, because with you we never have to panic. Everything you have had to do so far at the channels, you do it well.”
What are the reactions on the socials? Mixed, but mostly positive. Ad formation journalist Lucas Boon is nevertheless critical. “It becomes painfully clear how good Genee is, now that he is absent. And Van Groningen imitates him a little too much for my taste,” he writes. X.

TV critic Victor Vlam, who has suddenly been very fierce about VI lately, is enthusiastic. “More than an excellent debut from Thomas as presenter of Today Inside. A bit nervous at the beginning. The gist of it X post of Today Inside itself, however, is quite painful: there are massive calls for Thomas as the definitive successor. “I think he can take over. Then Genee can go to the karaoke bar permanently,” it sounds.
And a certain Jolanda: “Much more relaxed without always those stitches under water than Wilfred. Yes, sorry, that’s just how it is. Thomas is doing well! Much more pleasant to watch.”
