Thomas Müller is currently playing in North America. But at FC Bayern they are already thinking about his return – and they have a very special position in mind.
FC Bayern Munich could be led by Thomas Müller in the future. President Herbert Hainer does not rule out the possibility that the former record player will one day move to the top of the club.
In an interview with the “Abendzeitung”, Hainer outlined various scenarios for Müller’s return: The 36-year-old could work in operational areas, act as an ambassador or potentially take over the presidency. “He knows the club inside and out. He’s an intelligent, smart guy who now has experience abroad. So there are a lot of things that come together that recommend him,” explained Hainer.
The Bayern president sees the current position in the North American MLS league in particular as a valuable building block for Müller’s development. His commitment to the Vancouver Whitecaps made the former national player more mature, more international and more experienced. Hainer emphasized his wish to see Müller back with the German record champions at some point – regardless of the specific position.
Supervisory board Karl-Heinz Rummenigge had previously spoken out in favor of the return of the long-standing top performer. Müller himself is cautious: speaking on Bayerischer Rundfunk a few weeks ago, he described such considerations as a thing of the future. Although he knows his strengths, it is still unclear whether he wants to work as a coach or an official.
After his contract expired in the summer, Müller left Munich and joined the Vancouver Whitecaps. During his time at FC Bayern, he became the player with the most appearances in the club’s history and collected a number of titles.
