“I don’t know if that’s what I want to be”
Return to FC Bayern? Müller speaks out again

Thomas Müller curbs speculation about a return to FC Bayern in a responsible position. He describes such plans as “future music”.
Thomas Müller does not currently want to consider a possible return to FC Bayern in a responsible role. Even the public advertising by supervisory board member Karl-Heinz Rummenigge does little to change this. In the Bayerischer Rundfunk’s “Blickpunkt Sport” program, the 36-year-old said: “It’s a thing of the future. I’m aware of it. I know my skillset. But I still have no idea whether I could be a good coach and want to be a good coach. And whether I could be a good sports official and want to be a good sports official.”
Müller recently said on t-online about a possible return to FC Bayern: “Bayern will always remain my home, but for now I’m enjoying life in Canada and trying to play football successfully here.”
The long-time national player did not receive a new contract with FC Bayern after his contract expired and subsequently joined the Vancouver Whitecaps. With the move to the North American MLS, a new chapter has begun for Müller – as a record player for the German record champions with numerous titles under his belt.
Rummenigge recently emphasized that the club and fans wanted to see former players in responsible positions at FC Bayern. According to the former CEO, Müller could not only remain active in sports in Canada, but also work on his future prospects. After his active career, Rummenigge initially worked as a TV expert and then returned to FC Bayern as vice president. “Actually, the path is already mapped out,” said Müller with a laugh. He will also try his hand at MagentaTV next year as a television expert during the World Cup.
In an interview with Bayerischer Rundfunk, Müller referred to his existing contacts in Munich. The exchange with many former teammates remains close, he said. “The contact is very, very good,” he explained. He stays in touch with friends from his time at FC Bayern via a shared “golf chat group”. He is planning a visit to Germany in December.
First of all, however, the sporting competition is his priority. In the MLS playoffs, Vancouver will face FC Dallas in the first round. The game is played in best-of-three mode, the first duel takes place in Vancouver.
“Of course I would love to show the fans a full Vancouver Whitecaps stadium where I can lift the MLS trophy into the air with my teammates,” Müller told t-online. “We’re currently playing quite well and are at the top of the table. The playoffs start at the end of October and that’s when it counts. Let’s see if it works out in the end.”
