Around eight years ago, Thomas Diethart was one of the world’s best in ski jumping. But a few serious falls prevented long-term success. Now he stops.
Former Four Hills Tournament winner Thomas Diethart from Austria has finally ended his career and is instead continuing his coaching career in his home country. As the national association ÖSV announced, the 29-year-old will be the assistant coach of the Austrian jumpers.
“For me, my comeback in the summer was important in order to be able to really finish with ski jumping as an active person,” said Diethart: “It was also a learning process. It enabled me to bring myself up to date with the latest techniques and now I can use this knowledge right away to flow into my new task. “
Diethart had won the Four Hills Tournament from nothing in the 2013/14 season, but then quickly disappeared again into sporting insignificance. In 2018 he ended his career after a series of serious falls and switched to the coaching business, initially in the Tyrolean and from 2020 in the German Ski Association. Last summer Diethart dared to make a comeback and competed in seven mat jumping competitions, celebrating a victory in the lower class Fis Cup.
