Thomas Brdaric and Chennaiyin FC part ways

separation after a year

Thomas Brdaric and Indian Super League club Chennaiyin FC have ended their partnership. The 48-year-old coach shared this on Saturday via Instagram with. Brdaric took over the club last summer and built a team from scratch around experienced professionals like Petar Sliskovic, Julius Düker and Nasser El Khayati, who only just missed out on qualifying for the playoffs.

The working paper was initially only intended for one season, but both sides had not ruled out an extension after the end of the season. “Regardless of the professionals with international experience, we only have one Indian national player in our ranks compared to other clubs, most of them had no ISL experience or a comparatively professional education in the run-up to the season, but we have established a competitive team and several lads brought to become a regular player, sometimes in key positions. Indian talents are on the way to attracting international attention. We’re on the upswing and the development is there,” Brdaric recently summed up the completed season in an interview with TM.

“It was an honor to coach this wonderful club last season,” wrote the ex-national player on the social network. During this time he “closed the club to my heart and will never forget the memories we made on and off the pitch. We built a team that started from scratch and created a path for it to be successful in the near future. Unfortunately, the club approached me with the decision that they should look for new options in my position. It’s devastating, but I’m grateful to the CFC fans who have always given me the utmost support, which is what I enjoyed the most. I wish the club every success for the future and the right decisions for the path that was taken last season.”
