The campaign slogan ‘Maok z ‘n Bolleke Rood!’ from VVD candidate Thomas Melisse was taken very literally. On one of his election posters in Oudenbosch, his face is completely painted with red paint.

“It is of course not the intention for election material to be defaced, but I also see the humor in it. In any case, it is proof that my message is getting across.”

Melisse is a councilor in Halderberge and is in position 42 on the VVD list for the House of Representatives elections. Not a promising spot, so he is doing everything he can to get a seat through preferential voting. He needs about 17,000 for that.

“It provides extra attention and it gave me an idea.”

Thomas’ slogan can be seen on posters, signs and banners throughout the municipality of Halderberge. The bright red one makeover it’s not doing him any harm so far. “I’m actually quite grateful to the person who did this, because it provides extra attention and it gave me an idea.”

Thomas is thinking about handing out coloring pages on which people can practice coloring his ‘bolleke‘. “Hopefully they will know the right thing next week bolleke to turn red in the voting booth.”
