Thom de Vries shoots DEM to a big victory in the North Holland derby against ODIN ’59

Football clubs ODIN ’59 and DEM faced each other in competition for the first time on Saturday. In a somewhat tame match, DEM won the North Holland derby 4-1 against ODIN’59.

“This is why you play football. To play these kinds of games,” said assistant coach Richard Klijn of ODIN’59. The Heemskerkers started the match well and took a 1-0 lead. Just before half time, the Beverwijkers leveled. Yet DEM coach Ron Bouman was angry at halftime. “It was a short thunder speech. Then I went outside,” said Bouman.

Both clubs are close to each other and many players know each other well. “It was a fair this week and then you talk about it together. With a glass of beer and then shout that we are going to win,” says Thom de Vries.

Hat trick

De Vries himself started playing football with DEM, but played for years with neighbor ODIN’59. He returned to DEM in the summer of 2022. “It was special. I played at ODIN ’59 for seven years. Then you arrive here and you see all kinds of acquaintances. Then you go to a dressing room that you have never been in before.”

Thom de Vries, of all people, ensured a big victory for the Beverwijkers. With a flawless hat trick in the second half, he ensured that DEM won 4-1 against ODIN ’59.
