Thom Bell: Philadelphia soul pioneer is dead

Thom Bell is dead. The music producer died at the age of 79 at his home in Bellingham, America. Nothing is known about the cause of death so far. His death was announced on Thursday (December 22).

Bell was born in Jamaica in 1943. As a child, he moved to Philadelphia with his parents. In the 60s he worked with the soul band The Delfonics and wrote their hit “Didn’t I (Blow Your Mind This Time)”. He has also composed tracks for The Stylistics, The Spinners and Elton John. Along with Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff, Bell is considered one of the founders of the “Sound of Philadelphia”. The trio founded the record label Philadelphia International Records in 1971.
