This concerns Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. In the coming days there is a good chance to see these seven planets above the starry sky.

“That is from east to west,” says Mulder. “You cannot photograph them in one go. At most in a panoramic photo.”

Open field

The phenomenon of the seven planets in a row is called a planetary parade. When Mulder is asked what the best place is to see the seven planets, he says: “Look for an open field with a view to the south.” It is also important that the weather is clear, Mulder knows.

If the chairman of Orion wants to actively photograph celestial bodies himself, he likes to go to Lighthouse de Ven on the Oosterdijk. Another place where Mulder likes to photograph natural phenomena is the Markerwaarddijk (N307) between Enkhuizen and Lelystad. “Then I prefer to be halfway along the dike.”

Planet Mars

Next evening and night, when the sun has set, we can see Venus, Mercury, Saturn and Neptune in the west, Mulder says, and Uranus and Jupiter in the south. “Mars is already down,” he knows. This allows us to see six planets.

Some of the planets can be seen with the naked eye. Uranus and Neptune are further away and should be admired with binoculars or a telescope. If the weather is clear on Saturday, Mars could join us.
