Actually, FC Bayern had already given the all -clear at Alphonso Davies. Now the diagnosis is suddenly called cruciate ligament tear. So the misunderstanding occurred.
When Bavaria’s CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen asked himself in the interview on Monday, he still sprayed optimism. After defender Alphonso Davies had to be injured against the United States in an international match between the Canadian national team, there were fears that the service provider could lack the club in the end of the season and thus in the fight for the championship and the Champions League.
On Monday, however, Dreesen brought a happy customer: “The March break is already a big challenge for the clubs, you have to say that very clearly. Fortunately, there was an all -clear at Alphonso Davie,” he said (Read the interview published on Tuesday).
But on Wednesday the shock suddenly: completely surprising, the German record champion said that Davies suffered a cruciate ligament tear and that the club will be missing for a long time. According to T-Online information, in Munich you are expecting a downtime of seven months.
But how does that fit together? Why did Bayern boss Dreesen already gave the all-clear when Davies had seriously injured? As T-Online learned, Bayern not only relied on the public statements of the Canadian assistant coach, who spoke of a harmless blow and had only referred to the change as a precaution.
Instead, there was even direct contact between the Canadian team doctors and those of FC Bayern. Bayern should have been assured that no injury is to be feared. Accordingly, Dreesen made the all -clear.
The problem: The doctors of the national team had not carried out a MRI at Davies before their diagnosis. When the player returned to Munich, the Munich doctors caught up with the examination of pure duty of care. That was on Tuesday evening, a day after Dreesen’s public all -clear.
But instead of confirming the all-clear, the MRI then brought the shock diagnosis of cruciate ligament tear. Davies is to be operated on in the course of Wednesday. It will probably not be able to join the team again until October.
Bayern were similarly surprised by the injury to Dayot Upamecano. As the club announced on Wednesday, free joint bodies were found in the left knee at the central defender. It will also be canceled for a few weeks.
Surprisingly, the diagnosis came because the defender in the quarter-final thriller of the French national team in the Nations League against Croatia had transformed the decisive penalty. But when Upamecano returned to Munich, a swollen knee plagued him. There, too, the club doctors looked closer and found the injury.
