Jasmi Joensuu won the Sprint Skiing World Cup overall. It was settled in Tallinn. Timo Kunnari

Jasmi Joensuu struck the historic victory of the Sprint Ski Skiing World Cup on the Tallinn Singing Stage.

– I wouldn’t have thought that I could do this before the start of the season. There has been a steady and really hard performance, even though maybe such a spike result is missing except Toblach. It’s a really crazy feeling.

– Last season, I was 14th in the Sprint Cup overall results and this season’s worst investment is 13th. I guess the development has been pretty good.

Where has rapid development come from?

– I have a pretty insane support group, family and friends who have allowed me to do this in a hundred glasses since the day I decided to do this for my profession. This victory is the sum of many things. Yes, it has years of work that has been done.

Health is always a huge thing for a top athlete.

– Coping in the overall cup also requires that health is good throughout the season. Exactly zero sick day during the race season. I think it’s a pretty good achievement.

Denver raised

Joensuu studied, practiced and competed at Denver University 2015-19. Departure to the great unknown was a bold act, but it took a young athlete in many ways.

– Certainly the big thing is that I was there for four years and growing up as a person and athlete. Yes, I would like to thank me for being there.

Bump at a later

Jasmi Joensuu will ski this weekend in Salpausselä. Aop

Joensuu was on the singing stage with congratulations and media surrounded. A significant achievement is likely to bump into consciousness a little later.

– Of course this is an emotional moment. It may not completely realize it yet. Maybe there in Lahti then realizes the whole when you get it a crystal ball. Then it will probably be discharged.

At the time of a big victory, Joensuu wanted to thank the “terrible number of people”.

– It’s a long list. I hope that each of those people know for themselves who have been involved in this along the way.

When is this achievement time to celebrate?

– Yes, we have a party with friends and partners planned for Saturday.

Joensuu coach is an Estonian Kalmer Tramm.

The last Finnish sprint skiing cup winner is Virpi Sarasvuo (born Kuitunen). He won the Cup in 2006-07.
