This summer you can go ‘tank rafting’ in Kortrijk

According to Kortrijk, tank rafting is unique in Europe and comes from Nebraska. The city is working together with the company Tankkd for this.

After a severe flood in a Nebraska pasture, local farmers discovered that the water troughs for their livestock could float. A new business was born, because the bins became a coveted item in no time. Kim Neirynck from Kortrijk and partner David Desmet also saw potential in the story and started an export to Europe with their company Tankkd. The boxes mainly serve as original, galvanized outdoor (swimming) pools, flower boxes or fire pits, but soon also as an original water vehicle to explore the historic center of Kortrijk from a different perspective.

A tank can accommodate two to six adults. The necessary life jackets are provided on board. And it doesn’t take art to steer the boat. Ruth Vandenberghe, mayor: “The Leie is one of our greatest assets. Tourists and residents of Kortrijk like to descend on our lowered Leie banks at the Broeltorens. From the water you can discover this place from a unique perspective. An ideal summer adventure for the family or team building with colleagues.”
