Our province will receive less profit from network operator Enexis in the coming years. As a result, Enexis has money left to invest in the expansion of the electricity network. With this, the province wants to do its bit to give the energy transition a boost and to prevent overloading the electricity grid.
All Enexis shares are in public hands, spread over five provinces and more than eighty municipalities. With an interest of 30.8 percent, the province of Brabant is the largest shareholder. At the end of each financial year, 50 percent of Enexis’s net profit is paid to the shareholders, as long as that is not at the expense of the financial health of the network operator.
A maximum of one hundred million euros is now being set for this benefit. Everything above remains from Enexis. For example, the network operator has to borrow less money in the coming years. Due to the expansion of the electricity grid, Enexis will probably make more profit in the coming years, but the benefit to shareholders will remain the same.
“Enexis does extremely important work that everyone in Brabant benefits,” says deputy Stijn Smeulders. He is also chairman of the Enexis shareholders’ committee. “Like all other shareholders, we will still get a stable and suitable dividend, which we can do beautiful things for the public business. At the same time, Enexis can make more meters.”
