This is why the even house numbers on Vogeldreef do not start with 2, but with 20

Zoetermeer resident Rudy Stasnik emailed the editors with a question about the illogical numbering of the houses on Vogeldreef in the Seghwaert district. On the odd side the numbering starts at 1, but on the even side it starts with 20. Where have the house numbers 2 to 28 gone?

The start of the numbering starts at the Vogeldreef, at the intersection with the Velddreef. Here at the beginning of the street is a porch apartment with apartments and terraced houses.

For all your questions about streets

The editors of indebuurt Zoetermeer submit all questions about street names and house numbers to the street names committee within the municipality. According to the street names committee, the houses on Vogeldreef were built in 1980. A long time ago, that is why the municipality can no longer determine the exact reason for the illogical house numbering.

Vogeldreef or Velddreef

But a street names committee member does have a suspicion: “It was probably still unclear at the time where exactly the entrance to the porch apartment would be located. That could be on the Vogeldreef, or on the Velddreef. The municipality had to issue the house numbers for the Vogeldreef, so to be on the safe side they skipped some numbers to still have room for that choice. So those were numbers 2 to 18.”

Nothing wrong

Ultimately, the front door of the entrance hall of the porch flat ended up on Velddreef, meaning that house numbers 2 to 18 were no longer necessary for houses on Vogeldreef. So that’s why you don’t see those house numbers there in the street.
