This is what the Opening Night Live at Gamescom 2023 offers

The Opening Night Live officially marks the start of the world’s largest games fair, Gamescom. TECHBOOK is live in Cologne and summarizes the highlights.

August is a festival for gaming fans – partly because of Gamescom, which is taking place in Cologne again this year. After the Developers Conference has been running since Sunday, the trade fair opens on Tuesday evening with the Opening Night Live (ONL) for specialists as well. From August 24th, the trade fair will also be open to the public. TECHBOOK was present at the Opening Night Live.

Gamescom has been taking place since 2009 and a lot has happened since then – in the industry itself and thus also in the course and structure of the event. Among other things, the Opening Night Live was introduced in 2019. The opening show traditionally features game trailers and gameplay videos. Even during the corona pandemic, when Gamescom took place purely digitally, the format was retained.

And in 2023 the game fair in Cologne will be opened by the ONL, the show will be moderated, as before, by Geoff Keighley. The Canadian video game journalist is known for hosting the Game Awards and the Summer Game Festival, among other things.

The show starts at 20:00 in the evening. As in previous years, new trailers and game impressions will be shown. However, there will be fewer surprises in 2023. Geoff Keighley has already revealed that the event will primarily start with updates to well-known titles.

If you want to follow the Opening Night Live, you can do so in the live stream the gamescom. But TECHBOOK will also keep you up to date in this article.

These games are scheduled to be shown on Opening Night Live

Keighley has also already announced which games will be shown to us during Opening Night Live.

According to him these are:

  • Alan Wake 2
  • Assassin’s Creed Mirage
  • Black Myth Wukong
  • Crimson Desert
  • Fort Sol
  • Mortal Kombat 1

A highlight should certainly be “Assassin’s Creed Mirage”. The new Ubisoft game in the hit series returns to the roots of the franchise and is set in 9th century Baghdad. Incidentally, the start date is October 23, 2023. Many are also looking forward to news about “Alan Wake 2” and “Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty”.
