Theater and media family Joop van den Ende has pulled the wallet a lot: today there is a full-page advertisement in all large newspapers in which he calls on politics to protect our media against the manipulation of American tech giants. One of the measures that we have to take is investing in the NPO.

Joop wants more NPO

Joop wants no less, but more money to the NPO. “The great thing is that all those programs, websites and apps only cost the Dutchman 3.70 euros per month,” he says. “That is just as expensive as the public broadcaster in Albania, Croatia and Lithuania and much cheaper than in France, Germany, Finland and Slovenia.”

“Still, complaining sounds from The Hague. Especially since the current government is in power, with parties in the coalition that everyone with a critical view prefers to censor. Time and again the delusion is distributed that our broadcaster would be expensive and outdated. “

Not of this time

TV authority Tina Nijkamp contradicts Joop. She does think that money can be done from the NPO. “Joop wants the public broadcaster not to be cut again. But it just got a lot of money every year, “she writes on her analysis canal.

“And why don’t the public broadcasters do not even appeal to their membership fees and other hundreds of millions they have on the association accounts? And there are 13 public broadcasters with 13 directors and 13 media directors with salaries from the prime minister, 233,000 euros, is that still of this time? ”

Iris help

Jordi Versteegden, star reporter of De Telegraaf, doubts the integrity of Joop. “Well, he also supports his daughter with something, isn’t it? He naturally has Medialane, a production company, and if there is a cut on the public broadcaster, that can also cause less work for his daughter. ”

Colleague Jan Uriot then in the podcast Strictly private: “Yes, the knife cuts several sides.”

Own parish

Jean Dohmen, journalist from Het Financieele Dagblad, also thinks that Joop does this to enrich his own family. “There is an element of sermons for your own parish and therefore it actually goes off the rails,” he sniffs in Good morning Netherlands.

Incidentally, Joop also argues for approving the intended merger between DPG Media and RTL. “That offers a unique opportunity to finally make a fist against American domination with a Dutch -language company.”
