This is the neighborhood with the poorest streets in Barcelona

  • The area that declares the lowest income on average is not in Ciutat Vella or in Nou Barris, but in the Besòs i el Maresme neighborhood

The street that, on average, proves to be the poorest in Barcelona is not in either of the two districts that declare the least income in the Catalan capital, Ciutat Vella (11,154 euros per person in 2020 and 27,329 per household) and Nou Barris (12,241 euros per resident in 2020 and 30,212 per home). Nor is it found in the richest, Sarrià-Sant Gervasi (26,513 euros per individual in 2020 and 67,850 euros per household), where an anomalous decline has turned a census section of Farró into the most impoverished area of the city during the first year of the pandemic, according to the income distribution atlas of the National Institute of Statistics. The same data reveals that the humblest blocks in the city are located in the Sant Martí district and, specifically, in the Besòs i el Maresme neighbourhood.

According to the INE data, poverty feeds on the census section 10083which groups together a handful of nearly identical blocks nested between the avenue of Alfons el Magnànim and the round of Sant Ramon de Penyafort, on the border between Barcelona and Sant Adrià de Besòs. The inhabitants of that section stated that, in the fateful 2020, they had entered 6,594 euros per capita in 2020 (2.33% less than a year before) and 21,716 euros per family unit (a decrease of 2.14%).

Guillem Sagrera, Catània, Ferrer Bassa, Alcamo, Trapani, Messina, Galba, Reixac, Palerm, Marsala and Pere Moragues streets, as well as some Alfons el Magnànim, Felip de Malla, Cristóbal de Moura and Perpinyà. Buildings on these roads are affected by aluminosis and are pending a reform that began in July in the pilot test phase on a staircase on Messina street. The highest household income in Barcelona, located in the streets of Les Corts and Sarrià-Sant Gervasi, is almost five times greater than in the less graceful area of the Besòs and the Maresme.
