Sony Pictures officially announced the cast for the ambitious film project about The Beatles on Monday (March 31, 2025). The four-part Biopic series, each devoted to one of the band members, starts in the cinema worldwide in April 2028. The roles of the musicians are occupied as follows:
- Harris Dickinson as John Lennon
- Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney
- Barry Keoghan as Ringo rigid
- Joseph Quinn as George Harrison
The spectacular cast announcement took place as part of the Cinemacon 2025, where director Sam Mendes personally presented the main actors. In addition, a first official group photo of the four actors was published, which is already causing a sensation.
A major cinematic project with a unique concept
The Biopic project is clearly setting up from previous music films. Instead of a single story, four separate films are produced, each telling the perspective of a Beatles member. The stories are interwoven and shape a picture of the band together.
Mendes describes the publication of all four films in the same month as a “binge-bar cinema experience”. A “novelty in the modern cinema that should appeal to cinema and music fans alike.”
Official support from Apple Corps and original music rights
The films are being built in cooperation with Apple Corps Ltd., the official Beatles company, and have the band’s complete musical rights. In addition to Sam Mendes, who stages all films, Pippa Harris, Julie Pastor and Alexandra derbyshire are also part of the production team.
Jeff Jones, CEO of Apple Corps, also accompanies the project as a producer, which is intended to give the biopic additional authenticity.
Homage to a cultural icon
Sam Mendes said that the history of the Beatles was “too extensive for just one film”. He rejected a series because it could not transport the emotional force. The four films should now address both old and new fans.
At the presentation, the cast actors quoted the famous lines from “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band”:
“It’s Wonderful to be here, it’s Certainly a Thrill, You’re Such a lovely audience, we’d like to take you home with us.”
