Viinilehti has chosen the best red wines of the year.

The red wine of the year is an elegant and multidimensional pinot noir from Chile. The silver place was taken by a spicy fruity Douro and the bronze was taken by a modern classic from Rioja, Spain.

According to Viinilehti’s press release, the winning wine charmed the jury with its exceptionally delicious and juicy character.

Viinilehti’s red wine of the year 2025:

Cono Sur Single Vineyard Block 21 Pinot Noir 2022, Chile

Price: €15.90

Price-quality: A find – excellent value for money

Jury’s assessment: The ripe berry and very delicious aroma has wild raspberry, forest strawberry, red cherry, spiciness and light roastiness.

The medium-bodied, juicy, lively and richly fruity taste also has herbaceousness, ripe cranberry, sweet licorice and floral notes. Ripe berry acidity and slightly mouth-drying tannins balance the supple mouthfeel.

The juicy whole makes your tongue water with a gently roasted, cranberry, strawberry and very long aftertaste.

Food recommendation: Dark game birds and light meat dishes with a distinct flavor.

Silver:

Symington Altano Organic 2022, Portugal

Price: €14.98

Jury’s assessment: The wine, with its dark shades of aromas, was praised by the jury for its harmony, nuance and ethnicity.

Bronze:

Faustino I Gran Reserva 2016, Spain

Price: €28.98

Jury’s assessment: Compared to traditional Gran Reserva wines, the modernized wine has plenty of delicious fruitiness, without forgetting the roastiness, sweet spiciness and fine leatheriness typical of the wine style.

This is how the selection was made:

The jury for Viinilehti’s Red Wine of the Year selection (Juha Berglund, Pia Nisén and Antti – Rinta-Huumo) blindly tasted almost 250 wines from the standard and order selection that the importers had entered for the competition.

The bottle size was limited to 0.75 liters and the upper limit of the bottle price was 30 euros.

The jury tasted the wines blind in several pre-qualification tastings, based on which they selected 41 red wines for the blind tastings of the final competition.
