Jamai Loman is probably having a pretty bad day. The ratings of his debut as a presenter of Lego Masters have come in and they are not positive. “This is scary for RTL.”

After two seasons, Ruben Nicolai has said goodbye to his TV show Lego Masters, officially because he is too busy. The viewing figures were excellent under his leadership: the first season started in April 2020 with almost 1.6 million viewers, the second season in March 2021 with almost 1.8 (!) million viewers.

No cake for Jamaica

How different it is now that Jamai Loman has taken over the presentation of the program. The third season of the Lego brick show started last night with only 631 thousand viewers (15 percent market share), a huge downer for everyone involved. “Oh dear. It is quite a shock for RTL and Jamai,” says viewing figure prophet Tina Nijkamp.

According to Tina, the market share in the commercial target group is in order – almost 28 percent – but in total, according to her, there are too few people watching to speak of a success. “Jamai and RTL will not eat cake, I think,” says the former SBS 6 boss. “The drop is too big for that.”

Summer start

Tina thinks the summer start of this third season of Lego Masters is not helping either. “It might have been better for RTL to start the program at the end of winter or in early spring, just like the previous two seasons, instead of shifting it to the summer.”

According to Tina, RTL 4 was unwise. “Never change a winning team is not a cliché for nothing. In fact, that almost always goes wrong, even in TV land. For example, Memories, De Reünie, Popstars, Hello Goodbye and many other programs lost a lot of viewers and/or even died when a lot was changed in the program.”

So now it’s Lego Masters’ turn, Tina decides.

I’m leaving XL

How did the commercial competitor SBS 6 do? Even worse. Wendy van Dijk’s Ik Hou Van Holland copy Wie Kent Nederland caught on this time at 333 thousand viewers (8 percent). Remarkably, tonight is the final episode. So tomorrow we will know whether Sunday evening will provide better viewing figures.”

The most watched prime-time program yesterday was Ik Vertrek XL with 1.2 million viewers (27 percent) on NPO 1. The other most watched titles were RTL 4’s De 1 Percent Quiz (589 thousand), NPO 2’s Nieuwsuur (585 thousand). and Pieter Derks with 548 thousand viewers on NPO 1.
