A big day in the HD transition of the television is on April 1, when YLE’s basic broadcasts end. Starting on the first day of April, watching YLE channels in the antenna and cable network requires an HD-compatible TV or a set-top box.
The transition is due to the long-term planning of the entire TV industry and Traficom. Technical change in antenna and cable networks will be made on the night before the April Day 1.4. 2.01.
Basic broadcasts of commercial television channels will end at the end of June. After that, there are no basic broadcasts on the Finnish antenna and TV network.
100,000 household HD equipment to be purchased
Digita says in its announcement that there are still about 100,000 TV households in Finland, but there are no HD-compatible receiver. From the beginning of April in these households, you can no longer look at YLE’s TV channels without the acquisition of a high-definition receiver.
If your household can already look at channels that have a name for a program guide or channel listing HD, the receiver is HD-eligible.
– If you live in a block of flats and you are not sure if your TV on the antenna network, contact the property manager, Digita says.
If the HD channels are not visible, even if the reception has been found in the receiver and the antenna system is up to date, a new HD TV will probably need to be purchased. In this case, it is necessary to ensure that the new device receiver has a DVB-T2 tuner operating on the antenna network.
The tuner is on most new TVs for sale in Finland, but you can check the model -specific information on the page Testatuts.fi or from the seller.
-If you live in a detached house and own a modern functional UHF antenna and there have been no problems with the TV reception, the antenna is unlikely to be changed, Digita’s release states.
