André Hazes Jr. gives a journalist from the AD a huge fright with the way he speaks about mother Rachel Hazes in his theater show. “Yet I still find it hard,” he says.
Rachel Hazes took her son into her home upon her return from rehab, but then put him out on the street and André Hazes Jr. cannot forgive her for that. In his new theater show he lashes out at his mother and dedicates the song Zeg Maar Niets Meer to her ‘as the ultimate coup de grace’, according to the AD. Very hard, says the journalist on duty.
Not that shocking
The AD journalist is very shocked by this. “If I ever do something like that… My mother will never get over it,” he says in the newspaper.
André then says: “Well, I understand that. But we are used to something among ourselves. We also come from a different background. Unfortunately. For me this is not that shocking. And that song was the one that matched best with my story about the situation.”
‘I will never forgive her!’
André is very hard, according to the AD. “Yet I still find it hard. ‘I will never forgive her for that,’ you shout.”
The folk singer: “When I wrote this show, I knew very well what I wanted to talk about – and of course I also knew what people wanted to hear – but I did try to present things in a respectful way. What I say is about myself. And even if there is a bit of ‘shock’ in it, it is always about myself.”
Respectfully
It is not André’s intention to put Rachel down, he says. “I do talk about Rachel, but I also try to do that as respectfully as possible. Because of course it is my story.”
He continues: “I find it very difficult when people start talking about someone else without giving her the chance to respond. So if I want to talk very badly about her, I should also invite her to enter into the debate with me. I really think so.”
Rotten fish
You need to hear a story from both sides and otherwise it is better not to, says André. “If I say something, I don’t want to be nasty about it. Then I just want to say how I experienced it. Without calling the other person a rotten fish. That was a very big challenge. But she was also not on the guest list.”
The AD journalist: “Can I find that a shame?”
André concludes: “That is not necessary. Because – I find it exciting and even a bit scary to hear myself say this – I have never been as relaxed as I am now, at this moment, in my life.”
