Shortly after Madonna made a surprise appearance on stage with Sabrina Carpenter at Coachella, the Material Girl officially released her new song “I Feel So Free” from the upcoming album “Confessions II”.
“I Feel So Free” was initially heard hourly on iHeartRadio’s Pride station and played to “select DJs and clubs” before hitting streaming platforms after midnight – shortly after Madonna performed “Vogue” and “Like a Prayer” with Carpenter. The song is accompanied by a trance-like visualizer:
“Don’t be a vibe kill. Come on meet me on the dance floor,” Madonna sings and speaks on the track. “That’s why I like to go dancing. Safety in numbers.”
First taste of “Confessions II”
In a press release, “I Feel So Free” is announced as the “first taste” of “Confessions II” – the follow-up to Madonna’s 2005 LP “Confessions on a Dance Floor” – but explicitly not as the lead single, which is to follow. For Confessions II, Madonna collaborated again with Stuart Price, who produced most of the Grammy-winning 2005 album; both are credited as producers of “I Feel So Free.”
“People think dance music is superficial, but they’re completely wrong,” Madonna said in a statement about “Confessions II.” “The dance floor is not just a place – it is a threshold: a ritual space in which movement replaces language.”
Of her and Price’s approach, Madonna added: “We need to dance, celebrate and pray with our bodies. These are things we’ve been doing for millennia – they’re essentially spiritual practices. The dance floor is a ritual space. A place to connect – with your wounds, with your vulnerability. Raven is an art. It’s about exploring your limits and coming together with a community of like-minded people. Sound, light and vibration reshape our perception. They draw us in “We don’t just hear the rhythm of the bass – we feel it. It changes our consciousness and dissolves ego and time.”
Madonna’s first album since 2019
Released July 3, Confessions II is Madonna’s first album since 2019’s Madame X, as well as her first since returning to Warner Bros. Records in September.
