NFL Team Briefs: The Seattle Seahawks Facts

The Seahawks are one of the younger NFL teams. The franchise was allowed to compete in the National Football League from 1976. After a season in the NFC West, the league initially moved the team to the AFC West.

Up until the turn of the millennium, Seattle was notable for its lack of success. Playoff entries were a rarity, but negative records in the regular season were a common sight.

Russell Wilson leads Seattle Seahawks to NFL title

In 2002, during the NFL’s reorganization, the Seahawks moved back to the NFC West. Four years later, they made it into the Super Bowl for the first time. There, however, they lost 10:21 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

In 2010, Seattle hired successful college coach Pete Carroll, who, together with Russell Wilson, ushered in the most successful era in franchise history. The duo transformed the Washington organization into a serious title contender.

After a dominant season, the Hawks made their second Super Bowl entry perfect in February 2014. Then, against the Denver Broncos, they managed a 43:8 victory that was never in jeopardy. The following year, the team could have defended their title perfectly, but lost 24:28 to the New England Patriots in the final.

The two Super Bowl appearances were followed by years in which the franchise experienced some ups and downs. The team had six more NFL playoff appearances through 2023.
