The goalkeeper question at FC Bayern is still open. Manuel Neuer has not yet decided whether he wants to continue his career beyond the summer. National goalkeeper Oliver Baumann was recently linked to the record champions. The Hoffenheim support now reacted to the transfer rumor.
“Oh wow, I haven’t thought about that at all. I’ll do that at some point – or not,” said Baumann after Hoffenheim’s 1-2 defeat against Mainz when asked by “Bild” about Bayern speculation. According to the tabloid, the record champions should look into the national goalkeeper.
The 35-year-old would probably only become an issue on Säbener Straße if Neuer actually ended his career in the summer. Baumann could then become the experienced number two behind Jonas Urbig, according to the tenor.
“I have no idea. You’re revealing a lot, the advisors are doing the rest. It’s happening to me left and right. We’re focused on the last games,” said Hoffenheim coach Christian Ilzer, blocking the speculation about his key player to “Bild”.
Will Neuer continue at FC Bayern?
Meanwhile, Neuer has still not made a decision at FC Bayern. According to reports, the future discussions will only take place after the Champions League quarter-finals against Real Madrid (April 7th/15th).
Neuer celebrated his comeback after recovering from injury in the 3-2 win in Freiburg on Saturday afternoon. The 40-year-old is fit in time for the premier class showdown.
“There are always conversations with Manu,” Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund recently explained: “He’s currently listening to his body to see whether he has the feeling that he can play at this level for another year. There’s always an exchange, that’s very good. Let’s see what April and May will bring. What’s important is what his gut feeling and his body say.”
