The author Neil Gaiman has Allegations of sexual assault and abuse rejected claims raised by several women and published earlier this week in an article by New York Magazine were reported.
In a new statement posted to his website on Tuesday, Gaiman wrote: “I have never engaged in non-consensual sexual acts with anyone. Never.” His denial comes a day after the publication of the cover story, in which eight of Gaiman’s accusers spoke. Including four that came before her allegations in the podcast series 2024 Master: The Allegations Against Neil Gaiman shared. Gaiman also dismissed the earlier allegations back against him. And claimed all of his relationships were consensual.
Alleged abusive behavior by Gaiman toward women
The magazine reviewed texts and emails between the women and friends. As well as messages exchanged between Gaiman and the women. The article details alleged abusive behavior by Gaiman toward women who claim he forced them to perform degrading acts. And in some cases, made sexual advances while his young son was present in the room.
One of the alleged reports comes from Scarlett Pavlovich. A former nanny who began working for Gaiman and his then-wife Amanda Palmer in New Zealand in February 2022 (the couple divorced later that same year). Pavlovich accused Gaiman of attacking her on multiple occasions. She claims the author forced her to perform oral sex while his penis was covered in urine. And he allegedly once put his penis in her mouth, causing Pavlovich to vomit. Gaiman then allegedly asked her to lick the vomit from his lap. Pavlovich also claimed that Gaiman had sex with her while his son was playing on an iPad in the same hotel room.
“Matter closed”
Pavlovich filed a police report against Gaiman in New Zealand in January 2023. A spokesman said the “matter is closed.”
Gaiman denied the allegations in the story New York Magazine through his legal representatives and described them as “wrong, not to mention reprehensible”.
Two people enjoying completely consensual sexual relationships
In his post on Tuesday, Gaiman said: “I re-read the messages I exchanged with the women. And tracked the incidents that were later reported as abusive. These messages read now as they did when I received them. About two people who enjoy completely consensual sexual relationships and want to see each other again.”
He later claimed: “Some of the terrible stories now being told simply never happened, while others have been so distorted from what actually happened that they no longer have anything to do with reality.”
Kendra Stout is another woman who spoke about the story. She claimed she met Gaiman in 2003 when she was 18 and he “spoke at length about the dominant and submissive relationship he wanted me to have.” Stout claimed that they did not establish “safe words” or “boundaries” (standard elements of BDSM negotiations). And that Gaiman allegedly penetrated her with his finger and penis while she had a painful urinary tract infection and told him “no.” Stout filed a police report against him last October.
Following the allegations that emerged last summer, several film and television productions based on Gaiman’s books, including The Graveyard Book at Disney, set.
