This is how crowded Cala Mitjana is, a ‘paradise’ in Menorca

The overcrowding on the most famous beaches of Minorca is not new. Every year there are periods of saturation in the most famous virgin sandbanks of the island whose tourists want to know. But this year the collapse in Cala Mitjana has advanced and the image it leaves behind is far from being an idyllic place.

The chaos can already be seen before arriving, in the parking area, with capacity for 370 vehicles. At 11.00 there is no longer a pin and vehicle pressure spreads to the streets of Cala Galdana, very urbanized. Already from this enclave, agents of the Ferreries Local Police are trying to regulate the circulatory problems generated by the closing of doors in the Cala Mitjana car park, a measure that was launched on June 1 and will continue until September 30.

In pre-pandemic, in 2019 it was calculated that the beach supported more than triple (339%) the load of bathers in high season. Nothing could be further from the idyllic image that this enclave offers outside of the summer season.
