Maarten van Rossem thinks Aran Bade, the star reporter of RTL Boulevard, is a disrespectful guy. He finds some of his statements ‘below all standards’. “I was painfully affected by it.”

The departure of Maarten van Rossem and Philip Freriks as the permanent duo of De Slimste Mens is approaching. It has been coming for a while, because this was already announced last summer. Shortly afterwards, Aran Bade argued live at the RTL Boulevard desk for an early departure: “I think Herman van der Zandt should be brought forward!”

Below all standards

More than a year later, it appears that this still really bothers Maarten. “When Philip said to stop, I thought: then I’ll just stop. I found the commentary on this in television journalism to be below standard,” he says A.D.

“In one of those terrible showbiz columns something was said like: if they’re going to stop in two years, why aren’t those moldy elderly people cleaned up immediately? Because the viewing figures are getting lower and lower.’ Well, the latter turned out to be completely untrue. But the tone was set.’”

Painfully affected

So this is about Aran. He hurt Maarten. “I was painfully affected by it, yes. Out of sheer recalcitrance, I then let it slip that I wanted to stay seated until I dropped dead. If necessary, with an oxygen cylinder behind my seat. This was then taken seriously by the same sections.”

Philip then says: “You are talking about the RTL Boulevards and Shownieuws-like people of this world.”

Maarten: “That’s right, not about serious journalism. Anyway, sand over it.”
