A large gaping hole has emerged between the neighborhoods Oosterheem and Seghwaert. The municipality has removed thousands of trees and shrubs there to make room for a new residential area. There are piles of tree trunks and other pruning waste along the road. What happens with that?

For years this area was a hidden green pearl, where animals and birds lived freely and plants and trees grew lush.
Shrinking
The tree trunks along the road are fragmented, the municipality says. We will see a small part of the wood chips because that is reused within the municipality of Zoetermeer. The majority of pruning waste is taken to a specialized processor.
Green comes back
Despite the hood, Edisonpark must eventually become a green residential area. The municipality hopes to plant new trees this year. In addition, there will be new trees at every new construction phase in the residential area.

This year the construction of approximately 550 homes will start on this piece of land. Under the name Edisonpark there will be single -family homes, apartments and residential care homes. Both for buyers, and central and social tenants. In addition, the Edisonstraat will be a car -free area with parking spaces on the edges of the residential area.
Adopt
In 2024, the municipality already removed dozens of trees, shrubs and plants in this area. Those plants are partly adopted by Zoetermeerders for a large. They placed the greenery in gardens, at associations and in health food forests in our area.
