For years they have been seen as the closing event of the festival season, but this year FestyLand will look a little different. The festival has announced that the campsite will be cancelled. “It is not a choice we simply make,” spokesperson Geertje van Zoggel explains.

The festival season has only just started and thinking about its end is not yet an option for many festival goers. That is not necessary, because it has been certain for years: the festival season will end with FestyLand in Volkel.

The festival will only look different this year, the organization announced. “The campsite has been a major part of Festyland for many years, so it was not an easy choice not to offer a campsite this year,” Van Zoggel explains.

Costs disproportionate
Although the campsite has always been an important part of the festival, according to the organization, the decision did not come out of the blue. “We have experienced for a number of years that the costs are disproportionate,” says the spokesperson.

Due to the rising costs of keeping the campsite running, a camping ticket would become more expensive than a festival ticket. “FestyLand wants to keep costs as cheap and accessible as possible for everyone,” says Van Zoggel. And so the decision was made: no camping this year.

Anyone who wants to let loose one more time before working life really starts again will have to arrange a place to sleep somewhere else. “People who have already purchased a camping ticket will automatically receive their money back,” Van Zoggel reassures. The spokesperson has an appeal for people who no longer want to come to FestyLand due to this decision: “Send us an email.”

‘More spectacle’
The campsite is being cancelled, but will visitors get anything else in return? “We are going to invest in more spectacle,” the organization promises. “Previous years it was quite a fragmented festival experience, with many small areas around the main stage. That’s different this year. It will revolve much more around the main stage this year.”
