Cross -border behavior during carnival, it is not a subject for many carnival associations that they like to talk about. A survey by Omroep Brabant shows that almost half of the associations have taken measures to prevent these types of incidents, but most do not want to say too much about it. This does not apply to Coen van de Wouw from carnival association De Pezerikken from Pezerikkengat (Hilvarenbeek): “We find openness extremely important.”
Omroep Brabant interviewed 93 associations about, among other things, cross -border behavior during carnival. 38 of them (41 percent) indicated that they were deliberately working on this and having taken measures. This varies from keeping an eye on things, to appointing confidants or extra security.
Next steps
They do not have experience with cross -border behavior with the Pezerikken, says chairman of De Wouw. “Fortunately not. But we want to have it arranged well if something happens. ” That realization is not that long. “We have been working on this for a number of years,” says the chairman. “Unfortunately, you often hear stories about cross -border behavior in the media, it has also become a subject with us.” In the meantime, the association has put on paper how they deal with cross -border behavior.
But what does that look like in practice? “If people have experienced something annoying, they can immediately approach a confidential adviser. We have two, a man and a woman, “says Van de Wouw. The telephone numbers and e -mail addresses of these people are widely distributed: everyone must be able to find them. Also important, one of them is used to working with children and can therefore handle this group well. If necessary, the confidential advisers can take follow -up steps after a conversation.
Also in a small village
Pezerikkgat is a village, most people know each other. The thought ‘that does not happen with us’ does recognize Van de Wouw. “And we think so too. Or we hope so too. But unfortunately you sometimes hear other stories. Even in the smallest societies there are things that you would rather not have. And then you better have arranged it in advance. So that you don’t think afterwards: we had paid attention to it anyway. “
What can people go to a confidential adviser? “It is difficult to really mention an example, but I think it’s simple: the moment you feel ‘hey, this is strange, this is not good, I feel no good at this’ you can go to one go a confidant. ” Van de Wouw wants the threshold to take that step as low as possible.
Earlier
In the past there was hardly any attention for this type of business. Van de Wouw does not think that that means that anything never happened at the time. “More attention has been paid to it. That makes it may seem a bit more. And that is good, because we want a nice climate. People have to be able to come in and think: yes, this is an open and pleasant atmosphere.”
