The incident happened on Thursday afternoon at Johnsons Zoo, near Huntingdon in Cambridgeshire, England. Emergency services were called around 1:24 p.m. According to the British newspaper ‘The Telegraph’, several crocodiles were present when the boy was thrown into the enclosure. He suffered serious injuries and was taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge. His condition is serious but stable, according to police.
Investigators assume that the suspect and the child did not know each other. “We are currently speaking to people who were present at the zoo to better understand the circumstances of this disturbing incident,” Detective Inspector Verity McCann said. “We do not think the arrested man and the child know each other.”
The police are assisting the victim’s family at the hospital. Nothing is known about a possible motive at the moment. Johnsons Zoo is a popular family attraction with more than a hundred animals, including lions, Bengal tigers and crocodiles.
