Thijs Oosting is going to have a nice dinner at father Joseph after dream debut

Debut with two goals in the first quarter and help your new club to its first win after ten league defeats in a row. It’s a chapter from a boys’ book. The story is extra special for Thijs Oosting, because it was against his father’s team.

While Joseph Oosting explains the defeat of his RKC, his son stands a few meters away with a big smile in the mixed zone of the Koning Willem II Stadium. “This is a very nice afternoon. For me personally, but also for Willem II as a club. We are in a better position, now we have some air again. Now we have to continue.”

Apart from the fact that it was a very nice afternoon for the attacking midfielder, it was also strange. The joy was with him, disappointment with his father. At the beginning of this year, they also faced each other during the opening game of the season. RKC then beat AZ, the club that Oosting left a week ago for Willem II. “Then he won, that’s straightened out again.”

“But this is certainly also weird. For us this was the best at the moment. RKC was in much better shape and they are still above us. We have to make sure that we both play safe,” said the footballer. He hopes that for his father and RKC, the club that will always be in his heart.

Where the youngest of father and son stands with a big smile after his dream debut, senior has not been able to enjoy it. “It is very difficult for me. I am a trainer of RKC and focus on my own team. But it is very strange that my own flesh and blood plays with the other team. Tonight I may like it for him, but for now it sucks. Willem II is a competitor of ours.”

In the stadium, the two had seen each other very briefly after the final whistle, later in the evening they see each other for longer. “We gave each other a hug and a kiss, before and after. This has not harmed family ties, I’m going to eat with him tonight. That is certainly allowed. I can just sit down. It is also my mother’s house, so I I’m certainly welcome”, Thijs says with a wink. “But even if we had lost, I would have eaten there one hundred percent.”

Between all the questions about the family ties, Oosting also looked at his goals. Typical Oosting goals? “Yes I think so.” RKC had already been warned about it by the coach, although most players already knew that because he was active on a rental basis in Waalwijk last season. “We always have an opponent analysis with strengths and weaknesses. They know better than anyone that he is fast in the transition. He showed that last season at RKC. There is a good chance that he will create these kinds of opportunities. He is deadly effective .”

The last word belongs to Thijs, who radiates from ear to ear because of his goals and the win. Before he rushes to the parental home to sit down for dinner, he looks to the future. “This tastes like more.”
