That Monday, a man from Wormer receives a text message instructing him to call the bank urgently. In retrospect, the message contains a telephone number that turns out not to belong to the real bank.
When he calls the number, he gets a convincing-sounding ‘bank employee’ on the line who tells him that something serious has happened to his bank account.
Luxury stuff
Under pressure, the victim is urged to hand over his bank card and PIN code immediately at the front door. A man posing as a courier from the bank collects the card from him.
Only a few hours later, around 7:50 p.m., expensive items are purchased with the stolen card at a luxury department store in Amsterdam. CCTV footage shows two men shopping at the expensive French clothing brand Louis Vuitton.
