Thierry Henry joins Serie B club Como 1907 as co-owner

Reunion with Fàbregas

Former Sturm star Thierry Henry becomes a shareholder in the Italian second division club Como 1907. The club, which returned to Serie B in 2021, confirmed this at a press conference on Monday. The French world champion from 1998 and current assistant coach of Belgium takes over a small part of the shares of the northern Italian club.

For the club from the southern tip of Lake Como, Henry is the second well-known signing in a few weeks: During the summer break, the club, which played in the amateur division four years ago, already signed Cesc Fàbregas (35). The Spanish world champion of 2010 wants to contribute to the success as a player and also as a shareholder. Henry and Fàbregas were team-mates at Arsenal for three seasons, making 100 appearances together between 2004 and 2007.

With Wenger, the Gunners picked up 26 wins and 12 draws from 38 games in the 2003/04 season.

“Why Como? It’s very simple: A new chapter has opened in my life. I was a footballer, a coach, I work with Belgium, I work in television, but when this thing was proposed to me, I didn’t hesitate. I know how much passion there is in Italy,” Henry explained at the press conference about joining Como 1907. “First of all, I spoke to Fàbregas. I don’t know if he will be in the starting XI but I can assure you that a player of his caliber will make an incredible contribution. Seeing Cesc again is very important and nice for me.”

Henry, who retired in 2014, added: “This club has a great history. In the world people always talk about the lake or the beauty of the country and rightly so. However, now it is important to also talk about football in Como, because it is time for the club to grow even more. I will try to be in Como as often as possible.”

Managing Director Dennis Wise added: “I have the pleasure of working with him and I’m happy to have Henry with us. It’s a very important message for the club, he’s a great ambassador for the sport, I thank him very much. We look forward to cooperation. The fact that Henry and Fàbregas have joined us means we’re doing a good job. The ambition is there, three years ago nobody could have imagined something like that.”

In addition to shareholders Henry: Como 1907 presents striker Cutrone

On Monday, Como 1907 was also able to present another well-known newcomer. Center forward Patrick Cutrone returns to his hometown. The 24-year-old, who joined Wolverhampton Wanderers from AC Milan in 2018 for €18m and was involved in five goals in 31 Serie A games on loan at Empoli last season, has signed one for Como 1907 Contract until 2025.

“It’s a great honor to play for and represent my hometown club. This is where I grew up, this is where I kicked a ball for the first time, this is where my heart, my family and my friends are. Being able to return to Como as a player is one of the greatest joys. That’s why the negotiations were short and when I heard about Como’s interest, I had no doubts: it was the right transfer.”
