Thierry Baudet Member of Parliament for two meetings, buttons and t-shirts as a protest

Forum for Democracy leader Thierry Baudet has been installed as a Member of Parliament for two meetings. With this, the party wants to prevent the vacant seat from going to JA21. Not everyone was equally enthusiastic about Baudet’s arrival.

For example, members of parliament from D66 wore t-shirts in protest, referring to Baudet’s statements that we would be responded to by a worldwide conspiracy of evil reptiles. The shirt read (translated from English): ‘Reptiles make me happy, not so much you’. GroenLinks members were dressed in black and had a button with the text: ‘Against racism, against sexism, against homophobia and transphobia’.

“I also want a button, I am also against racism”

Baudet responded to it in his speech. “I want a button like that too”, he said with a smile. Then he went into more detail. Although he claimed not to know that it was intended as a protest against him. “I didn’t take it that way. It’s freedom of expression, fine of course. The button said they are against racism. I wanted that too, because I’m against racism too.”

In addition to the substantive criticism, there is also incomprehension that Baudet becomes a Member of Parliament for two meetings, just to prevent the vacant seat of the Forum for Democracy from going after JA21. The party consists of members who have left Forum of Democracy. “There is so much rancor in him. Let Baudet relax. It’s one big joke,” JA21 party chairman Gerard Köhler said earlier.

Prevent loss of seat at JA21

Isn’t it childish to become a Member of Parliament for two sittings for that reason? “No, it’s serious. I want to take the opportunity to sit here for a short time. I want to show our vision. I think it’s important that we make our voice heard and that we have a different sound. And people there to vote for on March 15,” said Baudet.

The Party of the Animals had requested a topical issue about Tata Steel. The most polluting factory on the site of the steel mill has been malfunctioning since it was built in 1972, research by current affairs program EenVandaag. “It smokes and leaks on all sides,” said a former employee, among others.

‘Sustainable mafia’

The Party for the Animals has long considered intervention necessary and called for it again. But in his very first provincial contribution, Baudet said he saw things differently. “Then we will incur between 10 and 20 billion euros in costs with the sustainable mafia to make it more sustainable. While you can repair that factory for between 200 and 400 million euros. You can easily solve the environmental problems with a few hundred million. “
