These stars have met the Queen (photo gallery)

The music world mourns the loss of Queen Elizabeth II. The British queen was simply a part of pop culture — and many a pop and rock star was even honored by Her Majesty with a Sir title. To commemorate the Queen, let’s take a look at some images of the clashes between the royal and pop worlds.

Let’s start right away with a summit meeting of the rock elite with the queen. In 2005, Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page and Brian May met the Queen at Buckingham Palace as part of Music Day At The Palace. Even the royal palace doesn’t experience as much guitar power as here every day!

Sir Paul McCartney and the Queen have had several meetings over the years – the following photo shows them at the Royal Academy of Arts in London in 2012.

Girl power meets Queen power: In 1997, the Queen invited the Spice Girls — who were then revolutionizing British pop — for an audience.

Rod Stewart (seen here with wife Penny Lancaster) had to bend down to talk (physically) to the Queen in 2016.

There were also a number of encounters between Elton John and the Queen — the following picture shows a meeting in 2012.

Queen of Pop meets Queen of Britain: In 2002, Madonna shook Her Majesty’s hand at the premiere of Bond’s “Die Another Day” at the Royal Albert Hall in London.

Let’s go back in time: in 1962, Tom Jones shook hands with the Queen…

In 2012 Jones met again – here with McCartney and Cliff Richard – and the Queen.
