These residential care homes for seniors will be located next to the old Monuta building

111 residential care homes for seniors will be built between the Amerikaweg and the Palenstein shopping center. This concerns 97 owner-occupied homes and 14 medium-priced rental homes (private sector). The new construction project name is Karakter.

The site is located between the Avia gas station and the former Monuta funeral home. In a few years, this monumental building will turn into an activity center for the residents.

Continue to live independently

This residential care location allows seniors to live independently for longer. The construction company therefore builds apartments that are life-long and sustainable. The residential complex will have bicycle sheds and a parking garage.

Visiting Cornelis

The old Monuta building will become a meeting and activity center. There will soon be room for hobby clubs and a hairdresser, pedicure or masseur. The new name will be Cornelis, named after the Zoetermeer craftsman Cornelis van Aalst.

In addition to the houses and the activity center, there will be a landscaped garden with greenery, a vegetable garden and sports equipment. In the future, residents can contribute to its maintenance and exercise.

Also social housing

The municipality also plans to have approximately 50 social rental homes built on this site. After the tender, the municipality sells the construction plan to a Zoetermeer housing association in order to build the social housing.
