These North Holland athletes and coaches are on the shortlist of the Sports Gala

Many North Holland athletes have a chance to win prizes. On Wednesday 21 December, they have a chance to be elected best Sportswoman, Sportsman, Sports Team, Paralympic athlete and Coach of the Year at the NOC*NSF Sports Gala.

Irene Schouten winner 5 kilometers – Pro shots

Three North Hollanders have been nominated for the women. Irene Schouten crowned herself King of the Winter Games with three gold medals (3,000, 5,000 and mass start) and another bronze medal in the team pursuit. Jessica Schilder surprised this year at the World Athletics Championships with a bronze medal. She did this with a Dutch record of 19 meters and 77 centimeters. A few weeks later, the Volendam woman was crowned European shot put champion with a record shot of 20.24 meters. Anouk Vetter won the prestigious Götzis all-around and took silver at the World Championships.

Many big names have been nominated among the men. Max Verstappen, Mathieu van der Poel and Abdi Nageeye are among the major contenders. Yoeri Havik from Zaandam is also one of the contenders. The 31-year-old bale cyclist won gold at the World Cup in the points race.

Jetze Plat, Caroline Groot and Jean-Paul Montanus have been nominated among the para-athletes. Plat became world champion para-triathlon in Abu Dhabi this week. Among the coaches, Merijn Zeeman, the successful sports director of Jumbo-Visma and short track coach Jeroen Otter are contenders for prizes.

Nominated para-athletes: Jetze Plat (para-triathlon/cycling), Caroline Groot (para-track cycling), Jean-Paul Montanus (para-table tennis)

Coach of the Year: Merijn Zeeman (cycling), Jeroen Otter (short track)
