In 2025, a total of over 3,700 tons of gold were mined worldwide. Which countries produce the largest quantities of the rare precious metal? In the following ranking we present the top 10 largest gold producers among the countries.
Gold is one of the rarest precious metals – only around four to five milligrams of the yellow metal can be extracted from one ton of earth mined from a depth of 15 kilometers. How much gold do different countries dig up on average each year?
11th place: The ranking
The yellow precious metal has always been one of the most valuable resources and, due to its diverse uses in jewelry or coins, but also in medicine and electronics, it is hard to imagine life without it. The following ranking presents the top 10 largest gold producers among countries. The ranking is based on the findings of the US Geological Survey/USGS 2025. The data is as of December 31, 2025.

10th place: Indonesia
With the production of a total of 90 tons of gold, Indonesia ranks 10th. Compared to 2024 (94 tons), the value is declining.

9th place: Peru
With a gold production of 110 tons, Peru ranks ninth. Last year the South American country only produced 108 tons.

8th place: Uzbekistan
Uzbekistan produced 130 tons of gold in 2025, placing it in eighth place in this ranking. In 2024 it was only 129 tons.

7th place: Mexico
Mexico comes in seventh place. In 2025, 140 tons of gold were produced, the same as the previous year.

6th place: Ghana
Ghana produced 150 tonnes of the yellow metal last year. This represents an increase compared to the previous figure of 149 tonnes.

5th place: USA
In fifth place is the USA, whose gold production is 160 tons. A loss of 3 tons of gold compared to 2024.

4th place: Canada
With a gold production of 200 tons, Canada secures fourth place. Compared to last year, Canada’s gold production remains unchanged.

Australia produced 280 tonnes of gold in 2025. Last year it was even 284 tons.

2nd place: Russia
Second place goes to Russia. 310 tons of gold were produced here in 2025. The previous year the value was also 310 tonnes.

1st place: China
The gold medal and thus first place in the top 10 ranking of the largest gold producers among countries goes to China: an impressive 380 tons were mined in 2025. This was even higher than the previous year (377 tons). The last time China exceeded the magical 400-ton limit was in 2018.
