These are the most common first names of knife attackers in Berlin

From Hildburg Bruns

The number of knife attacks in Berlin rose to 3,317 cases last year (2021: 2,777). That’s an average of nine actions every day.

In contrast to the attacks by the New Year’s Eve mob, the interior authority also mentions the most common first names of the attackers: Christian (9), Nico, Ali (8 each), Mohamed, Marcel, Michael (7 each).

After the New Year’s Eve attacks, the names of the rioters were still top secret. The CDU parliamentary group had investigated in order to be able to identify whether attackers with German passports have migrant roots. This earned her the accusation of racism from the left-wing political camp.

The nationalities of the knife suspects in the annual balance sheet: 1194 Germans, 158 Turks, 114 Syrians, 80 Poles, 65 Bulgarians, 55 Afghans, 52 Romanians. Of the German suspects, 51 also had a Turkish and 18 a Lebanese passport.

There was not a single female perpetrator among the 30 most common first names in 2021 and only one in 2022: Nicole (four times). And nine out of 30 on the list of names sound Arabic.

And why are first names public now?

Thilo Cablitz (44), spokesman for the interior administration: “Written inquiries from parliamentarians about knife attacks have been received for several years. There are no legal reasons preventing the naming of first names. There was no information on New Year’s Eve because it would have been possible to identify the people because of the location and the small number of perpetrators.”
