The stoppages on the 17th and 2nd will be partial, from 08:00 to 10:00 in the morning
The organizers do not rule out more forceful protests towards the end of the course
The teachers unions of Catalonia keep the pulse with the Department of Education and they have convened four new days of strike in schools primary and secondary for the months of May and June. The stoppages will be the days May 17 and 25 and June 2 and 9as announced this Thursday at a joint press conference at the headquarters of the Department of Labor.
The novelty is that the strikes of May 17 and June 2 will be partial, from 08.00 to 10.00 hours. After this two-hour break, the teachers will resume their activity in the classrooms. On the other hand, the strikes of May 25 and June 9 will be for the entire school day.
They have ruled out for the moment the seven convening unions (Ustec, Intersindical, Aspepc, CCOO, UGT, CGT and Soc) Aspepc’s proposal to call an indefinite strike starting June 13. However, they keep it on the table depending on the response of the teachers to these four days of strike. “If the teaching staff responds and takes to the streets, we do not rule out more forceful actions,” he pointed out. Educació declared the negotiations with the unions broken on April 26 after they rejected its last proposal, which was to recover the teaching hour in primary school this September, and leave the secondary teaching hour for the 23-24 academic year. The unions demand that all teachers, primary and secondary, recover the teaching hour this coming year, something that Educació sees as economically and technically unfeasible. Iolanda Seguraspokesman for Ustec, has assured that if the ‘conselleria’ moves in this direction, the unions will agree to negotiate the rest of the demands.
