Tomorrow, Saturday (July 15), the first of three Rammstein concerts will take place in Berlin’s Olympic Stadium. This might not go too smoothly. After a petition against the performances had no consequences, Senator for Culture Joe Chialo (CDU) also said that canceling the controversial gigs was not legally possible.
Irrespective of this, there should be a demonstration against Till Lindemann and his colleagues. The group “No Rammstein in Berlin!” wants to explain the route and processes of the demonstration train. “Patriarchal violence, as demonstrated by Rammstein, is not an isolated case, but has a system. On Saturday, July 15th we therefore protest against them #Rammstein-Concerts in Berlin. Join: 2:30 p.m. Theodor-Heuss-Platz and from there to the Olympic Stadium,” says Twitter on the page founded in June, which is still quite narrow with 213 followers (as of July 14, 1:45 p.m.). . The initiative’s homepage states: “Our demands are: A ban on the Rammstein concerts in Berlin – both in July 2023 and upcoming concerts, a meticulous legal and cultural-political investigation of the cases and compensation for those affected.”
In any case, an awareness team will be present at the three Rammstein gigs in the Olympic Stadium from Saturday, that’s a done deal. Interior Senator Iris Spranger (SPD) had previously banned all after-show parties in Berlin state institutions. In addition, there should be no “Row Zero” at the Berlin concerts. The group “Kein Rammstein Berlin” has meanwhile called for a demo on Saturday. The demonstrators start at 2.30 p.m. on Theodor-Heuss-Platz, at 4 p.m. they want to express their solidarity with those affected before the concert in the Olympic Stadium.
Rammstein singer Till Lindemann is accused of abusive behavior by several women, and the Berlin public prosecutor is investigating the 60-year-old. The band as well as Lindemann reject all accusations; the singer threatens to sue anyone who makes such claims.
ROLLING STONE will be there on Saturday, reporting on the demo and then on the concert.
