‘There will be no sequel to this’

Chantal Janzen is sometimes tipped as the new TV queen, but she has been stringing together ratings flops for years. Yesterday she waved off another one: the panel show Fout Maar Goud.

It is unbelievable how many failed programs Chantal Janzen already has to her name. In the past five years alone, she has seen countless titles flop: from Janzen & Van Dijk to &Chantal, from Chantal Komt Werken to Doe Het Lekker Zelf and from Chantal’s Pajama Party to Chantal’s Beauty Camper. There is nothing that really sticks.

Chantal waves flop off

In recent weeks, Chantal was on the channel with the panel show Fout Maar Goud, but that too was a straight viewership drama with only 393 thousand viewers at its lowest point. Yesterday, the program closed with a score of 574 thousand viewers (12 percent market share) on RTL 4, not enough for a place in the top 15 viewership.

It will be quite difficult for Chantal that she waves the umpteenth flop. Is she just unlucky with the wrong formats every time or are the expectations just a bit too high? For years she was seen as the new TV queen in the making, as the successor to Linda de Mol, but is that really part of it?

‘Not coming back’

One thing is certain: Wrong But Gold will not come back, thinks viewing figure expert Tina Nijkamp. “Only in sixteenth place with only 574 thousand viewers the last episode Fout Maar Goud with Chantal Janzen. Don’t think there will be a sequel: too low viewing figures and it causes a dip in the programming,” she knows.

The premise is also just plain bad, according to Tina. “The theme of ‘guilty pleasures’ mainly exists in the minds of TV magazines and radio producers. Many people think Glenn Medeiros with Nothing Is Gonna Change My Love For You is just a beautiful song and think that beautiful songs are played on the radio in Het Foute Uur.”

Koningsbrugge

Jeroen van Koningsbrugge was the prime time winner with 1 million viewers (22 percent) for Kamp Van Koningsbrugge. Immediately afterwards, Dit Was Het Nieuws reached 916 thousand viewers (20 percent).

Thanks to Today Inside (717 thousand and 16 percent) SBS 6 takes silver in prime time, and only then does RTL 4 follow with Chantal Janzen.

The other most viewed prime-time titles were NPO 2’s Nieuwsuur (571 thousand and 13 percent), NPO 3’s KVW (551 thousand and 11 percent) and SBS 6’s Het Roer Om (504 thousand and 11 percent).
