The head of the Buenos Aires government, Jorge Macri, announced a package of measures aimed at strengthening security in the city of Buenos Aires, with a record budget and a reconfiguration of investments. The most relevant decision is the acceleration of the works in the Marcos Paz prison, a strategy to relieve overpopulation in Porteñas and Alcaidías. As a consequence, the construction of the Central Alcaidía in Villa Soldati will be ruled out.

The budget for security represents 16.2% of the total, an unprecedented figure in the city. With more than $ 85 billion invested in equipment, infrastructure and technology, the administration of Macri seeks to modernize and expand the resources of the security forces.

More resources for the Police: Economic assistance will be granted to the families of fallen police officers in service or in attacks linked to their work. In addition, vacancies will be guaranteed in Buenos Aires schools and scholarships to the age of majority for their children.

Extension of the vehicular fleet: 120 trucks, 40 motorcycles, 40 quadricycles, 30 trucks and 6 minibuses will be incorporated to improve the mobility of security forces.

New equipment: To the almost 600 weapons of low lethality already available, 100 Taser guns will be added. Police uniforms will also be renewed and firefighters will be equipped with 350 special costumes for high -risk operations.

More surveillance cameras: A thousand new cameras with facial recognition technology will be installed, reinforcing the current system of 15 thousand devices that cover 75% of the city. The installation of cameras in groups and cars of the subway will also advance.

Investment in police infrastructure: The communal police station 7 will be completed in Flores and more than $ 10 billion will be allocated to improve the facilities of other police and alcaidías units.

With these ads, the Buenos Aires government seeks to strengthen security and improve the operational conditions of the city police. The acceleration of the works in the Marcos Paz prison appears as a central strategy to decompress the police stations and optimize the penitentiary system in the Buenos Aires field.
